NIH Issues Guidance on Sequestration Plans

On February 21, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Feb. 21 released guidance entitled, “NIH Operation Plan in Event of a Sequestration.” According to the guidance, if sequestration occurs, NIH will “reduce the final FY 2013 funding levels of noncompeting continuation grants and expects to make fewer competing awards to allow the agency to meet the available budget allocation.” The guidance also says in the event of sequestration, each Institute and Center (IC) will announce “their respective approaches to meeting the new budget level.”
