January 23, 2018

After a three-day government shutdown, the House and Senate agreed January 22 on a fourth short-term Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Continuing Resolution (CR) that funds the government through February 8. President Trump signed the CR last night. The House voted 266-150 to approve the bill. The Senate vote was 81-18. The CR includes a 6-year reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and suspension of certain health-related taxes. As part of the agreement to reopen the government, Republican leaders pledged to immediately consider immigration legislation if leaders do not reach a deal on immigration before February 8. The bill is similar to the previous three CRs that have been funding the government since the start of the fiscal year on October 1, 2017.
