January 11, 2013

Yesterday, Cong. Jack Kingston (R-GA) posted a press release announcing his appointment as the new House Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) Appropriations Subcommittee Chair. He acknowledged that LHHS appropriations reflect many important agencies-citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) directly, likely due to its Georgia headquarters, but does not mention the National Institutes of Health (NIH), making only one reference to “health research.” He also stated that LHHS reflects a microcosm of the issues the country is facing, stating that “… we cannot get our country’s fiscal house in order without stabilizing these programs.” He concluded by stating that he would work with Subcommittee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) to ensure that all Subcommittee members participate in finding solutions.
