Understanding Glaucoma Patients: Health Disparities and Unmet Need
On March 8, AEVR's Restoring Sight, Saving Vision Initiative hosted a virtual World Glaucoma Week 2022 Congressional Briefing, featuring Leon W. Herndon, Jr. MD (Duke University Medical Center) who spoke about health disparities in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, the second leading cause of preventable vision loss in the United States. Also speaking was Trinh Green, MD, who spoke about being diagnosed with glaucoma at the age of 21 and how she has been dealing with the disease since.

On November 17, the Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) continued its series of educational briefings on exciting new developments in eye and vision research by recognizing the second annual Thyroid Eye Disease Awareness Week, November 14-20, 2021. This congressional briefing featured guest speakers Kimberly Cockerham, MD, FACS (Central Valley Eye Medical Group), Ron and Vickie Barela (Patient Advocate and Caregiver), Kathryn Godburn Schubert, MPP, CAE (Society for Women’s Health Research), and Kira Baldonado, MPH (Prevent Blindness)
