NAEVR ANNOUNCES ADVOCACY AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AT THE 2019 ARVO ANNUAL MEETING
(Washington, D.C.) Today, the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) announced events in which it would be engaged at the 2019 ARVO Annual Meeting, to be held April 28 -May 1, 2018, at the Vancouver Convention Centre (VCC) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- NAEVR Central Booth open Sunday-Wednesday and located in the Exhibit Hall just across from ARVO Central. Attendees can contact their Congressional delegation to support Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 funding increases for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Eye Institute (NEI). You can also learn about various federal funding opportunities, including NIH's BRAIN Initiative and multiple Department of Defense (DOD) funding opportunities to study vision trauma research gaps. - NAEVR's Defense-Related Vision Research Opportunities Session on Monday, April 29, from 7:00-8:00 am in Room 109/110 of the VCC West Building. NAEVR has invited DOD Vision Program (VRP) Manager Tian Wang, PhD, to provide more details about the FY2019 Pre-Announcement for the VRP, which will have $20 million in funding for research projects. The session will also feature a panel of past awardees who will offer insights into submitting grants that are responsive to DOD research gaps.
In addition, NAEVR's affiliated educational foundation the Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) will be recruiting early-stage investigators to participate in this falls Fifth Annual Emerging Vison Scientists Day on Capitol Hill. Open to researchers who have not yet received their first NIH/NEI R01 grant, the event consists of an AEVR-hosted Congressional Briefing and EVS Poster Congressional Reception on Wednesday September 18, followed by a NAEVR-hosted Advocacy Day on Thursday, September 19. The event is sponsored by a grant from Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB).
