Update: President Bident signed the Continuing Resolution on Friday December 3.
(Washington, DC) Today, the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) issued a statement upon the December 2 House and Senate passage of a second Continuing Resolution (CR) [H.R. 6119] that funds the government through February 18, 2022 and is expected to be signed by the President today before the midnight expiration of the current CR.
NAEVR Executive Director James Jorkasky stated:
“Although NAEVR appreciates Congress passing a second Continuing Resolution that avoids a government shutdown, we urge lawmakers to work in a bipartisan manner to finalize FY2022 appropriations, especially a Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) spending bill that provides at least the House-passed $46.4 billion investment in the NIH base budget and an inflation-plus-growth 5 percent increase in National Eye Institute (NEI) funding.
While stopgap measures such as the CR serve an important purpose in continuing government operations, prolonged CRs create uncertainty that is disruptive to biomedical research and can delay the development of new treatments and therapies for patients.”
