AEVR ANNOUNCES THE SECOND ANNUAL EMERGING VISION SCIENTISTS DAY ON CAPITOL HILL

(Washington, D.C.) The Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) announced that the Second Annual Emerging Vision Scientists (EVS) Day on Capitol Hill will be held on September 14, 2016. Held during International Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Week 2016, the events include a Congressional Briefing on AMD and an evening reception in which 22 EVSs (see below) will display posters of their breakthrough research. On September 15 and under the auspices of NAEVR, the EVSs will meet with their Congressional delegations.

To RSVP for the AMD Briefing or evening EVS reception, contact Dina Beaumont at dinabeau@aol.com or 202-407-8325. Visit the home page of www.eyeresearch.org to link to the event information.

Congressional Briefing: Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Retinal Diseases
12 Noon, House Rayburn Office Building Room B-338

Held during International AMD Awareness Week 2016 and Healthy Aging Month, this Briefing begins AEVR’s Second Annual Emerging Vision Scientists Day on Capitol Hill. Amir H. Kashani, M.D., Ph.D. (USC Gayle and Edward Roski Eye Institute/Keck School of Medicine/University of Southern California), who will speak about the latest developments in AMD diagnosis and treatment, participated in the first-ever EVS Day in October 2015 and has been invited back as this year’s featured speaker.

Wednesday, September 14,
Second Annual Emerging Vision Scientists Day Reception
5:30 – 7:30 pm, House Rayburn Building 2168 (Gold Room)

The reception showcases the work of 22 early-stage vision scientists who will display posters and discuss their breakthrough research, which ranges from that addressing aging eye disease to deaf blindness. The event, made possible by a grant from Research to Prevent Blindness, focuses on answering the question, “How will this research delay or prevent the $717 billion annual cost of eye disease and vision impairment projected by year 2050?”

The Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR), a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, is proud to announce these educational programs associated with its Decade of Vision 2010-2020 Initiative, a sustained educational effort acknowledged by Congress that recognizes the benefits of federally funded vision research.
