World Glaucoma Day

NAEVR is pleased to participate in and promote several of the United States-based events associated with second annualWorld Glaucoma Day on March 12, 2009, which is dedicated to increasing the awareness of the incidence and economic burden associated with the disease. Since it serves as the “Friends of the National Eye Institute (NEI)”, NAEVR is emphasizing the vital role of NEI-funded research into this group of diseases that damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss. In fact, glaucoma is the second leading cause of preventable vision loss in the U.S., with individuals over the age of 60 and minority populations, especially African Americans and Hispanics, having a disproportionately higher risk and incidence.
