DOD, VA to Create Common Health Records
April 13, 2009
At a press conference last week, President Obama, joined by Defense Secretary Robert Gates and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, announced a new initiative to create a common health record for military personnel that will allow for a ‘seamless’ transition for troops as they move from DOD to VA health systems. The goal is to build a system that will contain administrative and medical information from the day an individual enters military service, through their military career and into civilian life. Currently, the two Federal agencies use incompatible systems that result in delays as soldiers move from the DOD to VA.
