Deployment Related Medical Medical Research Program (DRMRP)
In September 2008, the Department of Defense established a new medical research program which specifically mentions eye and vision research as one of the areas for which they were seeking proposals. This program is similar to the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) and like the PRMRP is also run by the same DOD agency, the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP).
The new program, entitled Deployment Related Medical Research Program (DRMRP) was created as part of the FY2008 Defense Supplemental Appropriations bill, and provided a total of $92 million in funding designed to 'address the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and mitigation of deployment-related injuries and psychological health concerns of deployed military personnel'.
The inital FY08 award proposals recommended for funding have been announced.
The abstracts for eye and vision research are available here.
