In September 2008, the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing to review the status of the implementation of the NIH Reform Act of 2006. In this section NAEVR provides updates on the Act's implementation and a full accounting of its activities that were taken to shape the 2006 legislation.

As one of its last acts before adjounment in December 2006, the 109th Congress passed the NIH Reform Act of 2006, although one with significant changes than the version originally passed by the House in late September 2006, as a result of changes made to the bill by the Senate. The bill was signed by the President on January 15th, 2007.
